You can’t drive to the waterfall directly by car, but you can save some time. Please be aware that the one-way street is very narrow and not for the faint of heart. Anyway, the Murg Valley is a highlight near Zurich, because the hike has a lot to offer with streams, waterfalls, alpine landscape and gorgeous lakes.

A tip is the approximately six-hour round hike to the Murg lakes in June after the snow melts, where you can see various other waterfalls. But it’s also possible to do in other summer and autumn months.

Lake Wägital waterfall

Just an hour from Zurich, in spring will find a beautiful waterfall at the Lake Wägital. And best of all, with just a 180 degree turn, you’re standing in front of a gorgeous backdrop, in my opinion one of the most beautiful near Zurich.

In summer there is also a lot to do in the region, but the waterfall is then often dried up. With 600’000 litres of water per second, the water plunges down the falls during the spring and attracts tourists and locals to this dream place.

In case you want to get really close to the Rhine Falls, you should visit the platform from Schloss Laufen. The entrance fee is recently 5 CHF, which is very well invested money.

If you are already in the vicinity, then other excursion destinations are the city of Schaffhausen and Stein am Rhein. If you want, you can even take a boat from Stein am Rhein to Schaffhausen.

Rhine Falls – the biggest waterfall in Europe

Saut du Doubs – the most famous waterfall in western Switzerland

The Saut du Doubs is by far the most famous waterfall in western Switzerland and named after the river “Doubs”, which forms the border between Switzerland and France in this region.

In summer, a boat goes from Les Brenets to Le Saut du Doubs, where you can comfortably reach various viewpoints in a 10-minute walk.
