The <\/span><\/span>UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch<\/span><\/span><\/a> in the canton of Lucerne is one of the most underrated regions in Switzerland. The area has charm and diversity with<\/span> its green meadows, traditional farmhouses, moorland, and karst landscapes. <\/span>But economically, the region does not have it easy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails and remote roads make the Entlebuch a perfect excursion destination. <\/span>In this travel guide, I’ll show you the most beautiful places, great hikes, and places to visit. Cross-cantonal excursions are also highly recommended, as<\/span>\u00a0the region borders directly to Emmental. <\/span>And now let’s go!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Before I talk about the excursion trips and hikes in the Entlebuch, I would like to examine the Entlebuch Biosphere in the canton of Lucerne briefly. <\/span>Regarding tourism, the region lies in the shadow of the Bernese Oberland and Lake Lucerne. <\/span>The Entlebuch is also very difficult to farm because of the many hills and karst landscapes. <\/span>But the region builds on its strengths: its unspoiled nature and diverse culture.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Not only the view in this 400km2 area is unique. <\/span>The region is also highly interesting from an environmental point of view. <\/span>Since 1999, the Entlebuch Biosphere has been an international model for the coexistence of nature and economy; the model’s core points are<\/span>\u00a0both the protection of nature and a strong economy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Nature is often lost at the expense of the economy (e.g., through overbuilding). <\/span>In the Entlebuch Biosphere, however, the precious natural treasures are well protected.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For example, \u00bc of the total area of \u200b\u200bthe <\/span><\/span>Entlebuch is moorland. <\/span><\/span><\/a>An even more impressive value when you know that this is 10% of the total moorland area in Switzerland!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Dead or fallen trees are also sometimes left lying around. The so-called deadwood<\/span>\u00a0provides valuable habitat for billions of animals and insects. <\/span>Since humans are “cleaners,” such trees are usually cut down and replaced directly. <\/span>This makes the Entlebuch extremely valuable from an environmental point of view and is a model region in Switzerland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
