The stone bridge in the Areuse Gorge is particularly impressive. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But there are also many other surprises waiting for you.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><img Noiraigue to the Stone Bridge<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">We arrived in Noiraigue this morning by train. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It had quite a few people, but it was never crowded.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">However, all hikers apart from one family flock to the Creux du Van. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Yes, the Creux du Van is a second very popular Swiss destination in the region. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You&#8217;ll find everything you need here.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But what few people know: The hike to the <a href=\"https:\/\/switzerlandbylocals.com\/en\/three-top-excursions-to-the-creux-du-van-you-dont-want-to-miss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Creux du Van<\/a> can be combined with the first part of the <\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Areuse Gorge<\/span><\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> . <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This way you see at least three natural wonders in one day. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The third is the Fontaine Froide. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This is a fountain that lets out water that is 4 degrees cold all year round.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The first steps of our three-hour hike to Boudry are through the idyllic village of Noiraigue. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You could almost think that time has stood still here in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myswitzerland.com\/en-ch\/destinations\/val-de-travers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Val de Travers<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And that&#8217;s exactly what I love so much.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But after only 10 minutes we have left the village and are getting closer and closer to the sound of the river. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It is hardly surprising that this river is called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.myswitzerland.com\/en-ch\/experiences\/route\/through-the-areuse-gorge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Areuse<\/a>&#8220;.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h3><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Economic use of the Areuse river<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The river in this Swiss Gorge was used for commercial purposes early on. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">For example, there were mills, blacksmiths and sawmills on the Areuse. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But there are also many hydroelectric power plants, which have a major impact on nature.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Imagine that: There are a total of 7 power stations along the 32 kilometers of the Areuse. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">That&#8217;s an enormous amount! <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You will find three of these seven power stations in the Areuse Gorge. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And the first one comes right after Noiraigue.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Although often praised as the best alternative, hydropower plants are terrible for flora and fauna. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Not only because they create barriers. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Also because the water speed changes within minutes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">So neither an animal nor a plant can adapt.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But on the Areuse Gorge hike we also spot great examples of unspoilt nature. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Almost directly next to the first power station, we see an intact floodplain landscape. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The river, the wood-free floodplain, as well as the trees (softwood floodplain). <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The flood plain is near the first benches. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">So you can see it well.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3151 size-large\" inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">By the way, floodplain landscapes are THE biodiversity hotspots. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Only 0.3% of Switzerland still consists of floodplains. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This proportion was much higher before the rivers were straightened. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And yet 40% of all plant and animal species occur here! <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Because it is so diverse in such a small area.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">After a short drink break, we continue to one of the wildest parts of the Gorge de l&#8217;Areuse.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p><h3><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Stone bridge Areuse Gorge\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h3><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And now you see it: the beautiful stone bridge. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This picture in the Gorges de l&#8217;Areuse is fantastic and like painted. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I bet poets like Goethe would have had many new ideas here.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Wow! <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">I could really stay here for a long time. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">For me, one of the most beautiful gorges in Switzerland. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The Areuse Gorge is a place of power! <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">And for photographers, the gorge is especially interesting between May and October when there are leaves.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Incidentally, the exact meaning of the stone bridge is still not known today. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But it is assumed that the bridge was built as a connection between the industry (eg blacksmith&#8217;s shop) and Champ du Moulin (trout farm).<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3153 size-large\" ascent.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Gorges de l&#8217;Areuse Hike Part 2: Stone Bridge to Boudry<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But for today&#8217;s hike in the Areuse Gorge, we continue downhill. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In about 20 minutes we reach Champ du Moulin. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This picturesque place was even visited by the writer Jean Jaques Rousseu, who stayed in the big white house. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">He liked it so much that he spent a week here spontaneously.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The House of Nature in Champ du Moulin is also a great attraction for hikers and nature lovers. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It explains the flora and fauna in the Areuse Gorge.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">If you want something to eat, there is a restaurant in Champ du Moulin called La Truite. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">&#8220;Truite&#8221; means trout french. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Accordingly, they serve mainly fish dishes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The restaurant is also the last place to go for refreshments and to fill du Moulin in about 10 minutes by foot. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">It runs every half an hour during the day.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">But now we continue in the direction of Boudry. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">This takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">However, this part is very worthwhile. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The Areuse Gorge is really wild once again. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In addition, <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.orchidwire.com\/Earth\/1\/Switzerland.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">orchids<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"> can be observed, especially in May.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">In Boudry you can take the train back to Neuch\u00e2tel. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Did you arrive by car and want to return to Noiraigue? <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Then you have to go to Bole to get back in 12 minutes without changing trains.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2><strong><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">Conclusion Areuse Gorge<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h2><p><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\"><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">The hike in the Areuse Gorge (Gorges de l&#8217;Areuse) is one of the most beautiful gorge hikes in Switzerland. <\/span><span style=\"vertical-align: inherit;\">You&#8217;ll see a lot, from floodplain landscapes to the wild river and the unforgettable stone bridge in this part of Val de Travers. <\/span><span
