Harder Kulm – Interlaken’s local mountain<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What a gigantic view!<\/p>\n

“Do you know these two lakes?” a father asks his daughter next door. “Lake Thun and Lake Brienz,” the child answered proudly. She was right.<\/p>\n

The Harder Kulm is Interlaken’s local mountain<\/a> and one of the best places at an altitude of 1,322 metres. It offers a spectacular panorama and sigts over the Jungfrau, Eiger, M\u00f6nch, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz.<\/p>\n

You can reach the mountain in just 10 minutes with the Harder Kulm cable car. From there you only have to walk about 300 metres to the viewpoint and restaurant.<\/p>\n

The development dates back to 1890, when Dr. Fritz Michael was granted as the right person to build an electric cable car from Interlaken to the Harder. Nevertheless, it was difficult to obtain financing for the project. Construction began in November 1905 and was to take 3 years. The funicular finally opened on 15 May 1908.<\/p>\n

But things were not always so rosy for the mountain. About 9 years ago there was even the discussion of closing it. Thanks to Dieter \u00c4gerter (manager of the Harder Kulm Restaurant) and the Jungfrau Railways, the story took a turn for the better. Today you can immerse yourself in a fairytale world that is also visited by stars.<\/p>\n

If you are looking for peace and quiet, you should avoid the summer holidays in July and August and weekends. Or take the first train early in the morning. Because the mountain above Interlaken is usually very well visited.<\/p>\n

1. Harder Kulm Hiking<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Several hiking trails lead up to the mountain. Many locals take the trails as an exercise, for competitions or to get fit for the hiking season. The Harder Run also takes place once a year. The record is held by Samuel H\u00fcrzeler with around 24 minutes!<\/p>\n
