Lake Ägerisee hike in a nutshell

• – Bathing and barbecue facilities available on the Lake Ägerisee

Start is at Lake Ägerisee camping site

Astonishing, this red-white coloured fly agaric, which proudly rises like a queen in the forest.

Have you never seen a fly agaric before?

Then autumn is the perfect moment to go on this atmospheric and very comfortable hike.

Full of energy you start at the campsite Unterägeri. It is very close to the swimming area of Lido in Unterägeri. The easiest way to get there for the hike on the Lake Ägerisee is by bus. But there are also various parking possibilities. 

First you walk through a former (drained) moorland, which is now a nature reserve and then continue towards the forest.

Lucky you! You almost can’t hike wrong here, because it simply goes along the lake. I write this because I have already lost several times my path when doing a hike the first time, especially in the Alps of Switzerland and without any mobile phone connection. Sometimes it was a blessing, but often rather tedious, because the hike took instead of maybe 5 hours then suddenly 7 hours 😀

But the hike at Ägerisee is very feasible with a duration of two hours.v

«What a magical lake», you think. And in autumn you will see an unbelievable number of mushrooms in the forest. The number was too high to count. Are you doing a better job? If yes, write the number of mushrooms you have found into the comment field.

In summer with the heat the hike is ideal, since a large part of the distance is in the shade and bathing possibilities are present. In autumn you can see incredible amounts of mushrooms. Ingenious for mushroom pickers!

If you check the soil carefully in the forest, you’ll discover in autumn the highly poisonous fly agaric. The animal that bit in here will most likely have died ☹

The Lake Ägerisee shows its magic side

You like taking pictures? Then listen carefully.

There are so many beautiful places at the Ägerisee (Lake Ägeri) where you can really take breathtaking photos. The lake and the mountain panorama of Canton Schwyz in the background create a special ambience. Just great how close this magical place is from Zug.

The photos are especially nice when the lake is calm. Then, the reflection of the lake is fantastic.

By the way: Half an hour before your final destination Morgarten you have the possibility to eat at the camping Nas or to fill your drinking bottle with fresh and free spring water.

There are also bathing facilities at Ägerisee (Lake Ägeri) for a small fee of 1 Swiss Franc.

After 2 hiking you did it! You have hiked around half of the lake. Congratulations and welcome to Morgarten. By the way, Morgarten is a very special place. The first battle between the Swiss Confederates and the Habsburgs took place here in the year 1315.

Therefore, it is worth taking a look on the battle chapel of Morgarten.

Finally, take the bus back to Unterägeri or continue to Zug (there is a bus every half hour).

The hike is also possible in the opposite direction. You start at the bus stop Morgarten and walk along the lake to Unterägeri, where you can end the hike with a cool bath in the beautiful Seebadi Lido.
